Prior to joining Waite, Schneider, Bayless & Chesley, Joseph Deters had, and continues to have, a distinguished career in public service. Mr. Deters began his public service career in1982 as an Assistant Hamilton County, Ohio, Prosecutor. In 1988, he was elected Hamilton County Clerk of Courts. In 1992, he was appointed, and later elected and re-elected, Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney. In 1999, Mr. Deters was elected Ohio Treasurer of State, where he was responsible for collecting, investing, and managing more than $11 billion in assets for the state of Ohio. During his six-year tenure, his office received 23 national awards for innovation and technology. In the fall of 2004, Mr. Deters was elected Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney. He oversees an office of over 150 employees. His office serves as legal counsel for county officials, county agencies, townships, and various boards.
At the end of 2008, Mr. Deters converted his public position to a part-time position and joined WSBC to engage in private litigation.
Mr. Deters is a member of the Cincinnati Bar Association, the National District Attorney’s Association, and the Ohio Prosecuting Attorney’s Association. He currently serves on the St. Joseph’s Cemetery Board of Trustees, and previously served on the University of Cincinnati Board of Trustees, the Ohio Organized Crime Commission, and the Southern Ohio Leukemia Foundation.
